Résumé / Abstract
Metal, paper and wood bonding industries require huge quantity of synthetic adhesives. The economic, environmental and health aspects for many of these adhesive formulations are a matter of concern for environmental protection agencies and adhesive industries these days. Most of the adhesive formulations are based on depleting petrochemical resources and toxic chemicals. Therefore, the development of cost-effective, environmental and health-friendly green adhesives, based on renewable bioresources, is necessary for consumers today. Research on adhesives development from polysaccharides is growing gradually. Development of potential bioadhesives is inevitable in current situation in order to reduce the use of commercial synthetic adhesives. This review deals with adhesive properties of polysaccharide-based intermediate and fully realized bioadhesives with major emphasis on their bonding strengths to metal, paper and wood adherends and the current perspectives for adhesive market. Its main objective is to provide a unified and complete document for an easy comparison of most of the developments made during the last decades in the area of intermediate and fully biobased adhesives, which has not been presented yet.
